Sydney –– There are out-and-proud cabinet ministers, ambassadors, high court judges and

religious leaders, but Australia’s only openly gay elite athlete is Matthew Mitcham, who came to fame but not fortune by denying China a clean sweep in the diving at the Beijing Olympics.

[obi] There was also anothter article i have read which said that since the actual games interview there has been little to no media about Mitcham :( Related to his sexuality maybe? When I think he would be a excellent role model to young people struggling with their sexuality.

You missed the point Hingurgy73, its not about switching anything on or off it about helping young people struggling with their sexuality. When about 1 in 5 teen suicides are the result of sexuality confusion and the depression caused. It can be a very scary thing, the fear is great that the family will reject you, lose friends and become hounded for sex preferences by their peers. Someone like Matthew with his success is someone who can reach many of the youth out there who face this.
