The Australian Same-Sex Relationships (Equal Treatment in Commonwealth Laws -- General Law Reform) 2008 passed the lower house on Wednesday and has been introduced into the senate. The bill removes discrimination from a lot of legislation including tax, aged care, veteran pensions, immigration and against discrimination of children of same sex couples granting equal rights to both parents.
The bill and readings of it are here (http://parlinfo.aph.gov.au/parlInfo/search/display/display.w3p;adv=;db=;group=;holdingType=;id=;order By=;page=0;query=Id%3A%22legislation%2Fbillhome%2F r3060%22;querytype=;rec=0;resCount=Default). The daily bills list with the passing dates I have uploaded here.1
The senate has not passed the bill yet and there is doubt that it will, gay and lesbian lobby groups are hard at work for more information see Australian Coalition for Equality (http://www.coalitionforequality.org.au/) and Gay and Lesbian rights lobby. (http://www.glrl.org.au/)
